Just a few pictures from the front of my house

This snow is thigh deep in front of my building

This is the front of my building.  This snow?  Thigh deep.  It’s that insane.

Path from neighbor's front door to mine

This is the path I shoveled from my neighbor’s front door to my front steps so the girls could go over and play for the next month while they are out of school due to the snow.  I exaggerate.  Sort of.

My front steps

Standing on my front steps after I shoveled them off just to get inside.

The roads?  They are clean and clear.  It’s getting out your front door, to your vehicle and getting out of the driveway that’s the problem now. Give us a month, we’ll dig out.

Maybe sooner.

Going Home, finally

I got the phone call, well, text message actually, that I have been waiting for. I will be going home tonight. Brian (yes, Brian) will pick me up on his way home from work. Not sure I’ll be able to get to work tomorrow, as he has a 4-wheel drive truck, and I don’t. He lives closer to the highway than I do. I live in town where they are not likely to have plowed all the roads. I don’t care. I’ll spend one more day at home, if it means I’m actually home. And by all accounts, I will be home.

Yes, I know I am posting twice today. Mainly because I won’t have internet at home, so I’ll be restricted to Twitter and Facebook on my phone.

But I’ll be home.

That’s the important thing.

Because I’m not using my laptop, all my fancy screen grab add-ons aren’t available so I can’t show you the map that says as of 5:45 last night we had 3″ of sleet and ice and 8″ of snow. At quarter to 6:00 last night. It continued to snow up until midnight.

Thank you to all my Twitter friends and Facebook friends who commented and Tweeted to me during the day today keeping me entertained and not alone. You really have no idea how helpful it was to know there was somebody out there to talk to. It made me feel less helpless and stranded. Huge help. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Oh and to my girlfriend @laci512, here’s another fix you big crackwhore. Tomorrow? You’re on your own. Sorry. Three posts in 2 days? That’s unheard of for me. That’s how much I wuvs you.

St. Louis Post Dispatch? I've got a shovel full of shut the fuck up for you.

I want to say that the snow has stopped falling.  For now.  I know that at least where I am, the road crews have been out all night working to clear roads.  That’s fine, but there is an 11 mile stretch of road that kept me from getting home yesterday.  I wonder if it’s been cleared.  And if it has?  How am I going to get there?  My car?  Stuck in snow 15 miles from here.

The news reported yesterday that Interstate 70 was closed from St. Louis to Kansas City.  The one major highway in the state that connects to east to the west, and it’s closed due to snow.

Then, today?  St. Louis Post Dispatch is claiming “Storm fails to meet epic billing.”  I don’t know who you have writing this bullshit but to borrow a phrase from Aunt Becky, Shut Your Whore Mouth.  This snow?  Shut down an entire interstate.  At 1:30 yesterday afternoon?  I was standing knee deep in snow clearing the ice from my windshield so I could see.  KNEE DEEP!

Maybe in St. Louis it failed to meet expectations.  Up here?  In Lincoln County?  It far exceeded expectations.  Mother-Fucking-Nature really outdid herself up here.

And in Mid-Mo where the girls’ dad lives?  He’s ass deep in snow.  ASS FUCKING DEEP.

So, to you St. Louis Post Dispatch reporter who says Snowmageddon 2011 failed to meet it’s epic billing?  I’ve got a shovel full of shut the fuck up for you.
