Another one bites the dust

It came to pass that another American Icon gave in to the almighty dollar.  The Tagline on their website says “Making friends is our business”  That’s funny, I thought it was making beer.  It seems to be more like making a fuckton of money. For the owners.  Not the employees.  They could be out of a job.

Most of you won’t notice a change or even been concerned about the sale of Anheuser Busch to the tight wad company InBev.   Around here, the effect is already being felt.

St. Louis is known for several things.  The Cardinals.  The Blues.  The Rams.  The Arch.  and Anheuser Busch.  AB is an American Icon.

And now it’s Belgium?

EW works for AB.  She’s not sure how much longer she will have a job.  This new owner?  He’s so tight, his ass squeaks when he walks.  The lay offs that are rumored to be coming down the line are unbelievable.  The morale of St. Louis.  The owners walk away happy.  Everyone else?  Just pissed off.  And scared.

The economy sucks right now (unless you’re a Busch… then well, all is right in the world) and there are hundreds of people afraid to blink because they don’t know if or when the ax is going to fall.

Anheuser Busch was OUR company.  This is the home of the Clydesdales.  Is InBev going to bring in their own horses?  I’ll bet they can’t train them to make commercials like our Clydesdales do.   Hell, up until this season, Anheuser Busch sponsored the Prince of Nascar, Dale Jr.  (of course this year it’s the hottie.. Kasey Kahne..but that’s an entirely different story).

The stories we’re hearing in the news are not pretty.  They do not instill confidence in this company.  We have lost a part of what makes St. Louis, St Louis.  Sure they say the company will stay here.  Sure they say there will be no changes made.  Sure they say that the consumer won’t notice a difference.  And in the case of the consumer, that may very well be true.  But what about the employees who will be out of a job?  Explain to them and their family again how nothing will change.

The future is always uncertain.  For some it’s even more uncertain.  The solid ground they thought they were standing on, just started to crumble and shake.

And an American Icon, sold out.
